Croatian President Stjepan Mesic met here Friday with visiting Chinese State Councilor Hua Jianmin and both leaders spoke highly of the development of bilateral ties.
Mesic said Croatia pays great attention to developing friendly and cooperative ties with China.
The Croatian side is willing to work with China to expand cooperation to more fields and make bilateral relations, based on friendly and cooperative cooperation, develop deeply and in a comprehensive manner, said the Croatian leader.
He reiterated that the Croatian government adheres to the one-China policy and is against all "Taiwan independence" activities including the "UN membership referendum."
Hua said that since China and Croatia established diplomatic relations 15 years ago, ties between the two countries have enjoyed stable development in many fields including politics, economy and international affairs.
Politically, the two sides respect each other and treat one another equally, while economically, the two countries have maintained cooperation of mutual benefit and common development, he noted.
In international issues, the two have shown mutual understanding and support for each other, he added.
The friendship between the two peoples has been deepened, Hua said.
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to Sino-Croatian relations and persistently views Croatia as a good friend and a good partner that we can trust," the Chinese official said.
China is willing to work with Croatia to further strengthen political dialogue on various levels and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, humanities, personnel, science, education, sports and tourism, Hua said.
The Chinese government encourages Chinese enterprises to engagein building such infrastructure projects as ports, airports and roads in Croatia and also welcomes Croatian companies to run business in China, he said.
